What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy means different things to different people. It does not offer miracle solutions, but asks you the client to engage in a process and an exploration. Most benefit is drawn from psychotherapy by individuals who engage with this process.

There are many definitions of psychotherapy and theoretical approaches. For example psychotherapy is a working relationship in which you are helped to explore and manage what is happening in your life. One key aim is to find a new immediacy and intensity in living and better ways of dealing with life’s continuing challenges.

My philosophy is that all people have an enormous capacity for living creatively, lovingly and joyfully which is often untapped or repressed in our society. Recognising that each person is unique, and that one therapy model does not suit all, I offer a bespoke service adopting an Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling approach. Integrative Psychotherapy means that I attend to the whole person, their perceptions, thoughts, feelings and physical experience working as a whole. It also means that I move flexibly among a range of approaches such as humanistic, psychodynamic, body psychotherapy and neuroscience, depending on your individual needs and personality.

I can facilitate you to understand your situations, review the options and decide upon actions. Clients often find that knowing they have a plan they have considered carefully from all angles improves self-confidence and optimism about the future.
Therapy is also designed to encourage communication of conflicts and insight into your problems.
